Team Canada has officially named its long track speed skating team for next month’s Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Fifteen athletes, eight women and seven men are set to take the ice.

Among the headliners are a trio of Beijing 2022 gold medallists in Ivanie Blondin, Valérie Maltais and Isabelle Weidemann. Together, they won the women’s team pursuit four years ago.

On the men’s side, veteran skaters Ted-Jan Bloemen and Laurent Dubreuil return to the Games once more. Bloemen, 39, will be making his third Olympic appearance and is expected to contend for medals in the 5000m and 10,000m competitions. Dubreuil, a Beijing silver medallist, will race in both the 500m and 1000m.

There are several newcomers of note on the squad as well, with Béatrice Lamarche set to become a second-generation Olympian after her father, Benoît, competed in the Sarajevo 1984 and Calgary 1988 Games, and Carolina Hillier-Donnelly among the Olympic debutants.

Canada has a successful history in the sport, having captured 42 medals in all – more than in any other sport for the nation.
