Ahead of forecasted snowfall in Toronto, Air Canada has activated its flexible ticketing policy.

The city is under a yellow snowfall warning, with up to 10 centimetres expected to fall Wednesday (Jan 21), potentially disrupting morning and evening commutes, as well as air travel.

Environment Canada says an Alberta clipper — a fast-moving low-pressure system — is forecast to bring snow during the morning before tapering off later in the day.

Periods of reduced visibility are possible during heavier or blowing snow, and travellers are advised to allow extra time.

“Flights may be impacted by forecasted winter operational conditions,” Air Canada wrote in a notice posted to its website.

For flights out of Toronto Pearson (YYZ), Billy Bishop (YTZ), Ottawa (YOW) and Montreal (YUL), Air Canada has revised its ticketing policy for Jan. 21 to make it easier for customers travelling on an affected flight to make changes without penalty (space permitting)

If a flight is affected, customers can retrieve the booking to change their flight free of charge.

Customers who purchased a ticket with Air Canada Vacations are advisors to contact them directly at 1-800-296-3408.

Travellers are also advised to check their flight status or call Air Canada’s automated flight information system at 1-888-422-7533 before heading to the airport. For more info, click here.
