Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Prime Minister Mark Carney appeared to patch up their differences on trade Monday over a slice of pizza.

Meeting for the first time in weeks, the two men smiled for cameras and spoke to some local kids enjoying a snow day at a Pizza Nova location in Etobicoke.

“We’re all about Team Canada,” Ford told reporters.

Carney then echoed Ford: “All about Teams Canada, all aligned. I found it twice as productive as the premier.”

Asked if they had made up, Ford said the two men never had a problem.

“Listen guys, we’re a big family. And you know, sometimes brothers and sisters may disagree, but at the end of the day, make no mistake about it, we are one country, Team Canada. Both of us.

“Are there differences? Sure, there is. But I can tell you one thing; we agree on 99 per cent of the stuff.”

Last week Ford railed against an electric vehicle deal Carney struck with China to allow in some 49,000 Chinese-made EVs per year in exchange for loosened tariffs on canola and other Canadian products. He slammed it as a “terrible deal” and said it would come at the expense of Canadian workers.

Ford also said he was made aware of the deal just hours before it was made public and expressed disappointment that Carney had not reached out to consult him or discuss it despite its potential impact on Ontario’s already hard-hit auto sector.

Ford said Monday the two men are both committed to “moving stuff faster.”

“Let’s get the approvals. Get shovels in the ground. Let’s start moving,” Ford said.

Carney said the two “worked up an appetite” dealing with around “five big topics” over the course of their 45-minute meeting.

“We’re going to work on moving those forward, and we’re going to see each other in two days,” he said, referring to an upcoming First Ministers’ Meeting.

Ford said the topics covered included energy, critical minerals, the Ring of Fire and the auto sector.

The premier was also set to meet Monday with federal Industry Minister Melanie Joly at Queen’s Park.
