CANTON, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Town of Canton will hold a public hearing next month to discuss a proposed moratorium on data centers, server farms and cryptocurrency mining facilities.
Mayor Zeb Smathers confirmed the hearing will allow residents to share their thoughts about the proposed restrictions. He said the hearing comes in response to concerns from people in Canton and Haywood County.
The public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Canton Town Hall.
The mountain town is among communities across the region weighing how to handle data center development.
