Hollywood star Brad Pitt is heading to Greece for the filming of his latest movie, The Riders, with production set to take place on the picturesque island of Hydra in the coming weeks.

The Hollywood actor’s visit is expected to draw international attention, further highlighting Greece as a sought-after destination for major film productions.

The news was revealed by Hydra mayor Giorgos Koukoudakis during an appearance on the TV show Happy Day. According to the mayor, Pitt is expected to be on the island from late February until mid-March.

“We have been informed that Brad Pitt will be coming to the island,” Koukoudakis said.

He noted that the production holds special significance for Hydra, as it was the filming location for Greece’s first Hollywood movie, Boy on a Dolphin, starring Sophia Loren, in 1957.

“We are particularly happy, because the unique natural scenery of our island has once again been chosen,” the mayor said, adding that the municipality is proud of its long-standing connection to culture and cinema.

Koukoudakis explained that a meeting with representatives of the production company is expected to take place soon in order to finalise the municipality’s role in supporting the shoot. He added that the island is preparing to accommodate several hundred members of the production crew.

“As you understand, we are a small island, but we will do everything we can with the means and goodwill we have, because our island loves culture,” he said.

While details of the film remain limited, the mayor expressed delight that, for the first time in Hydra’s history, the tourist season is effectively beginning in February. He also noted that the island’s tourism period now extends until mid-November, with visitors even arriving during the recent Christmas holidays.

According to Koukoudakis, extras will be needed for the production, although no further information has yet been released.
