The crowds that filled central Tel Aviv on Saturday evening did not come out for a symbolic gesture or yet another “momentary protest,” but as a clear civic declaration: Arab citizens of Israel are no longer willing to accept a reality of lawlessness, violence, exclusion and the continued erosion of their rights. This was not a fringe demonstration, nor the protest of a single political camp. It was the protest of an entire public.
