Latvia’s severe cold snap is set to continue on Sunday night and into Monday morning with further severe weather warnings issued across almost the whole of the country.
Alerts have been sent via mobile phone networks saying temperatures will likely reach -25 Celsius to -29 Celsius in much of the country but could get as low as -31 Celsius in southern districts.
Much of the south and east of the country is covered by an orange alert (danger) with a large area to the north covered by a yellow alert (potential danger). Only a thin strip of land around Cape Kolka and along the Gulf of RÄ«ga escapes the danger zone.Â
People are advised not to stay outside for long periods and, if they do go out, to dress appropriately. Infrastructure and transport could potentially be affected by the very low temperatures, so members of the public are advised to take this into consideration, too.
