WASHINGTON (Gray News) – President Donald Trump remarked on the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie.
Trump called Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance “terrible” when asked Tuesday during a presidential bill-signing ceremony in the Oval Office.
“I’m going to call her later on. I think it’s a terrible thing,” Trump said. “I always got along very good with Savannah.”
The president also said he would not be opposed to committing additional federal resources to the investigation in Arizona.
“Very unusual situation, but we’re going to find out,” Trump added.
Authorities in Pima County and the FBI believe the missing 84-year-old woman was taken against her will based on evidence found at her Tucson-area home.
Authorities say there were concerning circumstances found at the missing woman’s home, and homicide detectives are also investigating. (CNN)
On Tuesday, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed reports of possible ransom notes that were circulating, but he would not publicly verify the legitimacy of the source or demands.
Tucson-based affiliate KOLD was one of the news outlets to receive an alleged ransom note via email. The document was forwarded to investigators.
“We are taking all tips and leads very seriously,” Nanos said. ”Anything that comes in, goes directly to our detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.”

Nancy Guthrie was last seen Saturday night and reported missing the following day after she failed to show up for church. Nanos said she has limited mobility and requires crucial medication daily.
Deputies said a trail of Nancy Guthrie’s DNA was found inside the home, but officials did not confirm whether it was blood.
Savannah Guthrie, who grew up in the Tucson area, pleaded for prayers from the public for the safe return of her mother.
