SOUTH AFRICANS ABROAD: MASEKO SCORES HIS FIRST GOAL IN CYPRUS
The two teams – AEL Limassol and Omonoia Nicosia – battled it out in the Cypriot Cup quarterfinal match at GSP Stadium.
Maseko’s side took a lead through Leo Natel in the 17th minute but a stoppage time penalty goal from Ryan Mmaee brought Omonoia Nicosia back into the game.
The encounter was forced to go to extra time to try and find a winner, and Maseko had already entered the pitch.
Now, in the 115th minute, the Mamelodi Sundowns loanee hit the back of the net to hand AEL Limassol a 2-1 win.
The result saw AEL Limassol, who also have another South African in Luther Singh on their books, advance to the semifinals.
FIRST GOLD MEDAL LOOMING?
AEL Limassol are two games away from winning the Cypriot Cup, and this could be Maseko‘s first in his short stint with them.
This despite being reduced to a more impact player with all his appearances for the club coming on as a substitute.
The 22-year-old has now featured in two matches for AEL Limassol, and he already has a goal under his belt.
