HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – During the Rockingham County Board of Supervisors’ regularly scheduled meeting Wednesday night, an ordinance involving special use permit procedures was unanimously passed.
The ordinance requires the county code to allow three years for the commencement of Solar Facilities, Energy Storage Projects, and Residential Projects after approval by a Special Use Permit.
It the Rockingham County code, which previously allowed for two years for commencement, into shape with the state code.
This decision also comes after parts of Rockingham County have seen a number of developers and energy companies looking to create solar energy farms on agricultural land.
Those developers and energy companies have previously expressed their intentions during previous community meetings to seek a special use permit from the Board of Supervisors in the future.
