Demonstrators have assembled in central London for a rally demanding an end to US and Israeli military action against Iran. Multiple tents were erected by charities and campaign organisations along the road beside Victoria Tower Gardens adjacent to Westminster, with activists distributing placards, literature and merchandise.
Campaign organisations including the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Stop The War, Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Muslim Association Of Britain, Palestinian Forum in Britain and Friends Of Al-Aqsa will spearhead a march to the US embassy on Saturday afternoon. The Metropolitan Police has imposed restrictions requiring demonstrators to remain on specified routes and conclude their post-march gatherings by 5pm.
Activists bearing banners reading “Stop Trump’s Wars”, “Stop the War on Iran”, “Stop Arming Israel” and “No War on Iran” have commenced their march towards the US Embassy in Vauxhall, central London.
Numerous participants were waving Iranian and Palestinian flags alongside portraits of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who was killed in the opening strike of the war last Saturday.
Those at the front of the march could be heard chanting: “We are the people. We won’t be silenced. Stop the bombing now, now, now, now.”
A Metropolitan Police officer estimated that between 5,000 and 6,000 individuals were marching on Saturday afternoon, with a significant number of police vans stationed around Millbank and numerous Metropolitan Police officers patrolling the area.
One protester, demonstrating in central London against US and Israeli strikes on Iran, expressed that “the public aren’t for the war”.
When questioned about his reasons for attending the protest in Millbank on Saturday, Martin Perry, 58, from Northampton, stated: “Because the acts against Iran is against international law, and it’s just a pattern of events, decisions taken by America and Israel, that are destroying international law.”
He further added: “I’m here today to signal to Keir Starmer that the public aren’t for the war against Iran, and don’t want our forces going into, being involved in an illegal war.”
Several clusters of individuals waving Israeli flags were observed along the side of Millbank as protesters demanded an end to US and Israeli strikes on Iran.
Numerous protesters could be heard vociferously shouting “shame on you” and “murderers” at those brandishing Israeli flags.
A handful of individuals holding the flags responded to the marchers with comments such as “you’re wrong”, “you’re in denial”.
The Metropolitan Police have increased patrols surrounding the protest, with many officers accompanying the marchers towards the US Embassy in Vauxhall, central London.
