The new fleet will comprise of a mixture of 14 articulated buses and 36 standard eCitaro buses, with the first having entered operation in January and the remaining vehicles set to enter service by the end of March. They will join their existing counterparts on the 46, 53, 87, and 89 lines, and utilise the charging infrastructure at Pannenhuis and Westland-Moortebeek throughout the day.
Deployment of the new vehicles brings the number of electric buses within the area to just over 140, with previous Bluebus and Solaris models now primarily in use on the 13, 37 and 64 lines.
Minister of Mobility Elke Van den Brandt said:
With these new electric buses, we’re taking the next step in modernising our public transport.
We’re consciously investing in liveable neighbourhoods: these buses are quieter and don’t emit polluting exhaust fumes. They provide greater comfort, not only for passengers on board, but also for those living along the lines.
