Demonstrators with a message of support for refugees will be back marching through Portswood, Southampton, on Friday evening (31/3/26).
The march is a counter-demonstration, organised by Southampton Stand Up To Racism, in response to ongoing anti-asylum seeker protests that have been held, with diminishing numbers, since early summer, outside a hotel housing asylum-seekers, placed there whilst they await the outcome of their asylum applications.
The ‘Defend Refugees’ march will see counter-demonstrators gather outside Waitrose in Portswood, from 6pm before marching up Portswood Road to form a counter protest outside Highfield House Hotel.
Meanwhile, an anti-asylum seeker protest is set to begin outside the hotel at 6pm.
In a statement on social media, SSUTR said: “We show up because Southampton stands for compassion and dignity — never hate. And when we turn out together, we outnumber them, we outmatch them, and we show exactly what this city stands for.”
