One afternoon in Helsinki, the capital of Finland I decided to check out the underground stations, starting with the main station in the centre of the city.
It was big, imposing and old.
But I wanted to see the flash new ones and it seemed the western line — fairly new and going quite far from the city centre — was the one to see.
So I bought a ticket and rode the rails.
I got off at random at a number of the stations and was struck by how clean, spacious and well designed they were.
And they looked pretty amazing too. Each one by a different architect/designer.
So I post here some photos from a few of these stations which may be of interest because very soon Auckland is opening three new stations and it’ll be interesting to see how they compare.
Meantime here Helsinki under the ground.
Although let’s start at the central station by way of comparison.
