JD Vance’s presidential prospects in 2028 have been seriously hurt due to Donald Trump’s unilateral war on Iran

The vice president believes that the war might seriously harm the GOP’s next nominee if it continues for months. Due of his impending child, Vance has informed his closest advisors that he has not yet made up his mind about running in 2028.

According to one insider, Vance’s fourth child, who is due this summer, has also caused him to reconsider his plans to run for president. Before deciding to return to the campaign trail, he and Usha Vance want to observe how having another child impacts their lives.

The Washington Post was the first to report on Vance’s conversations with those close to him.

As Trump continues his assault against Iran, Vance, who began his political career as a strong opponent of protracted military combat in the Middle East, is now noticeably silent. The Vice President has been under increasing pressure in the wake of former Counterterrorism Director Joe Kent’s abrupt resignation.

Vance attempted to convince Kent not to turn his exit into a public spat prior to his announcement, in which he publicly denounced Trump and asserted that Israel was the cause of the war. In the end, the attempt was unsuccessful. Since the beginning of Operation Epic Fury, at least 13 US soldiers have died and more than 200 have been injured.

A fifth of the world’s oil runs through the Strait of Hormuz, which is still blocked by Iranian mines and missiles. As a result of the conflict, gasoline prices have increased to an average of $3.90 per gallon from $2.90 when the conflict started three weeks ago, creating a global energy crisis.

Vance was seen as Trump’s likely 2028 successor a year ago, following his abrupt return to the White House. But over the past few months, Trump’s change in foreign policy has brought attention to Marco Rubio’s hawkish impact.

During the military assault against Venezuela in January that resulted in the capture of dictator Nicolas Maduro, the Secretary of State was conspicuously by Trump’s side in the temporary Situation Room at Mar-a-Lago. As missiles rained down over Tehran at the beginning of Operation Epic Fury, he was once more by the President at his Florida house.

Vance’s absence from both meetings fueled rumors that he and Trump might be at odds. The President acknowledged earlier this month that Vance was initially “philosophically a little bit different” and “maybe less enthusiastic” about the war on Iran.

On betting sites like Kalshi, Vance’s chances of winning the GOP nomination have also plummeted. Vance had about a 54% chance of being nominated near the conclusion of the previous year.

But now, according to Kalshi, Vance has a 38 percent probability of winning the nomination in 2028, while Rubio is almost tied with him at 31 percent.
