Fuel prices in Luxembourg are set to rise again from Saturday, the economy ministry has said, reversing a drop that will have lasted just 24 hours.

The price of diesel will increase by €0.139 per litre to €2.005, climbing back above the €2 mark only one day after a sharp cut took effect.

Home heating oil will also rise, up €0.145 per litre to €1.464, undoing the reduction of an almost identical size announced just a day earlier.

The rapid turnaround comes after the government on Thursday said diesel prices would fall by almost 12 cents from Friday.

However, petrol prices remain unchanged, with Super 95 holding at €1.70 per litre and Super 98 at €1.814.

The back-to-back adjustments highlight the volatility in fuel markets, which have been driven in recent weeks by geopolitical tensions and uncertainty around global oil supply.

Prices surged following the outbreak of conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran, with concerns focused on potential disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil flows.
