Mini PICelectroNIC in the park
This family-friendly festival will take place among the greenery of Place du Parc in Bonnevoie. Expect concerts, workshops, installations, (sound) performances, and plenty more to spark creativity and fun for the whole family. It is organised by Rotondes, and advertised as a ‘festival for headbanging kids and grooving parents’. As well as music, there will be activity stands and food trucks. The festival will be spread over the entire square and the line-up includes DJs, a brass band, hip-hop, reggae and electro.

Duck race
It’s back (of course)! We couldn’t get through an entire April without the beloved duck race. Watch thousands of yellow plastic ducks race down the Petrusse – you can even sponsor one to be in with a chance of winning a prize – and not just any prize: one is a brand-new Volkswagen car. There will also be a DJ and food trucks. All proceeds from the event will go to seven children’s charities. The ducks will race at 15:00 but food and entertainment will be available from midday.

Jurassic event
Just over the border, in Thionville, the Musée Archéologique du Pays Thionvillois – la Tour aux Puces is hosting a Jurassic themed event. Get ready for some serious egg hunting. The dinosaurs have hidden their eggs all around the museum, and they need your help to find them. This is suitable for children aged four and over, the hunt lasts 20 minutes, and costs just €1. You must sign up before Thursday 2 April as places are limited.

DKV Urban Trail
This urban trail with running distances ranging from 14km to 34km is not only for runners and adults. There is a 900m race for children aged between six and eight, and a 1800m race for those between nine and 12 years old. Even if you’re not too keen on taking part, watching the race is a brilliant day out. In the very heart of the city centre, runners make their way up and down the Petrusse, the old town, and up towards the Trois glands in Kirchberg. That means you can get into the trail atmosphere while not venturing too far from the cafés and activities available in the city centre. Expect music and a buzzing atmosphere as you support the runners. It is also possible to take part by signing up for Nordic walking routes between 7km and 18km long.

Watch a national rugby match
Support the Luxemboug XV at the national stadium, in Kockelscheuer, as the national team takes on Latvia. Tickets cost just €10 for an afternoon of sporting fun, while your family soaks in the atmosphere to cheer on the Roude Léiw.

Mini chefs make pizza
Tell your kid to get their chef’s hat on and get ready to start making pizza. A this pizza workshop, they will learn how to make the base and choose the toppings to make their most creative pizza. They will leave with their creation, so no need to worry about what’s for dinner that evening.

Baker for a day
Most children are familiar with Fischer bakeries. Well, imagine they could learn to bake there. In April, various Fischer branches are opening their doors to give children aged between six and ten the chance to do just that. The session lasts two hours, when they will get to decorate Easter pastries and then have a little snack with ‘Jeff the rabbit’. Note: a parent or guardian must be present.

Visit the Haut Fourneaux and City of Science
Get a little bit more cultural with a combined visit to Belval’s Haut Fourneaux and the City of Science. Learn about the history of steel production and the transformation of this former industrial site into a contemporary urban district. Enjoy a spectacular view from the top of the 40m furnace. Visits are in French, last two hours, and are suitable for children.

‘The Great Day of the Hare’ at the cinema
The weather has been so unpredictable recently, so you might want to keep a few indoor activities up your sleeve. Cinémathèque is screening The Great Day of the Hare (no dialogue) and it is suitable for children from the age of three. The film is about peas venturing out of their pods, a family of hares busying itself making Easter eggs, the spark of love between two pastries and a speck of dust that reveals an unsuspected world.
