The Great Lakes Space Alliance, in partnership with Headwaters North and the Chippewa County Economic Development Corporation, is set to host the inaugural Great Lakes Orbit: A Launchpad for Space Innovation.
The event, which will celebrate National Space Day as well as the growing regional opportunities to pursue careers in the Space Tech industry, will include everything from space-themed trivia to satellite demonstrations to kid-friendly rocket launches.
The Great Lakes Space Alliance is dedicated to accelerating Michigan’s leadership in the aerospace and space-based economies.
According to information from the Great Lakes Space Alliance, a group dedicated to accelerating Michigan’s leadership in the aerospace and space-based economies, the festivities get started at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 with a Space Trivia Night at Bird’s Eye Outfitters. The event is open to the public.
The main conference then gets underway on Wednesday, April 22 at the Sault Ste. Marie Country Club. Some of the workshop sessions include:
Space 101: Foundations of the Modern Space Enterprise at 9:15 a.m.
Current National Activities: NASA, DoW and Intelligence Community Priorities at 9:45 a.m.
Panel Discussion: Innovation at Headwaters North — Entrepreneurs, startups and success stories at 11 a.m.
Fireside Chat: The Future of the Great Lakes Space Region at noon
Space Workforce and Talent Development in Michigan at 1 p.m.
Next Step Sessions: “Launching Your Space Business” at 2 p.m.
How Michigan can participate in the emerging space economy at 3:15 p.m.
NOAA weather satellite data downlink demonstration at 4:15 p.m.

On April 25, families are invited to the free “Space Rocks” event at Northern Sand and Gravel. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be rocket launches, a live look at command and control satellites and live weather images from space, demonstrations on methods for building on the moon and a grand finale launch at 12:45 p.m.
According to the Great Lakes Space Alliance, Great Lakes Orbit is made possible through the support of corporate leaders such as Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, Atlas, and BRPH, IQM Research, M. Carey Consultants, Peninsular Husar, as well as local partners like the Sault Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Northern Sand and Gravel, CCEDC, OMTV Holdings, Headwaters North and Homestead Space, LLC.
