A hotel briefly used to house asylum seekers is getting ready to reopen to the general public.

Room reservations at the North Stafford Hotel were suspended in November 2022.

A number of weddings booked at the venue were also cancelled, leaving couples’ plans in tatters.

The hotel, located opposite Stoke-on-Trent railway station, stopped operating as an asylum seeker hotel in January 2024.

Britannia Hotels still operates the venue, which has since had a ‘full refurbishment’, StokeonTrentLive reports.

A post on the North Stafford Hotel’s Facebook page read: “The countdown has officially begun.

“We are excited to announce that the grand opening of North Stafford Hotel is just around the corner following a full refurbishment.

“The transformation of North Stafford Hotel is truly something special.

“Get ready to experience a fresh new look, enhanced comfort, and a welcoming atmosphere like never before.

“Whether you’re staying with us or just visiting, we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on.”

The news received a mixed reaction in the comments section.

Hayley said: “We had our wedding reception in that room 3rd of May 2008, it would be nice to visit again.”

Michelle chipped in with: “So lovely to see this.”

Christine wrote: “Brilliant to see this hotel restored and ready for use again.”

However Jackie said: “Now you want people come back after cancellations of weddings and parties.”

Trevor added: “Wouldn’t spend a penny in there.”
