A Forsyth County man accused of threatening to kill immigration officials in June 2025 was arrested Friday, authorities said.

Richard David Warren, 61, mailed threats to two federal officials, and made additional threats to kill family members of one and to blow up the house of the other, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina said in a news release Friday.

Warren, formerly from Brunswick County, is charged with three counts of threatening to murder a federal official and two of mailing a threatening communication to a federal official.

President Donald Trump stepped up immigration enforcement soon after taking office in January 2025.

Protests in Los Angeles erupted in early June 2025 after federal agents raided workplaces and parking lots of home improvement businesses. Trump ordered National Guard troops and Marines to the city to quell the demonstrations, but similar protests broke out across the county.

In July 2025, Trump announced that “arrests of criminal illegal immigrants have soared,” including a 160% increase in North Carolina over the previous year.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement is investigating Warren’s case, U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle said. The eastern judicial district covers 44 North Carolina counties from the coast to Raleigh.
