The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the European Central Bank (ECB) on Sunday signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in central banking.

The MoU was signed by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, and ECB President Christine Lagarde on the margins of the Bank for International Settlements meetings in Basel, per a RBI statement.

The updated MoU, which replaces an earlier agreement signed in 2015, provides a framework for regular exchange of information, policy dialogue and technical collaboration between the two institutions in areas of mutual interest in the field of central banking.
