TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) – The economy was the topic during a breakfast held by the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama Thursday morning at the River Market in Tuscaloosa.
The event featured guest speaker Anoop Misha of the Birmingham branch of the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta.
The overriding theme business leaders learned was in the next 12 to 24 months, little to no growth is expected because of the war with Iran and high gasoline prices
“It’s good taking a pulse of where we are in the economy and where our business community sees the path forward,” said Chamber of West Alabama president and CEO Kyle South.
“I believe in the meantime we have some real opportunities to take advantage of these emerging markets. We just need to continue to do what we’ve always done as a city and be strategic in our investments, look over the horizon and continue to spend the taxpayers money wisely so we can provide services, such as mental health officers, to the people of this community,” said Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox.
The chamber says it typically holds a breakfast for its membership on the topic of the economy once a year.
