The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 is here and Belgium are hoping to take their second win while in Vienna, Austria.
Belgium has won the Eurovision Song Contest once. This victory occurred in 1986 when 13-year-old Sandra Kim won with the song “J’aime la vie” in Bergen, Norway.
Last year, their representative, Red Sebastian, failed to qualify for the Eurovision 2025 Grand Final, finishing 14th in the first semi-final with 23 points.
The same also happened in 2024, so apart from this year the last final they qualified for was in 2023 where Belgium finished in 7th place at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with a total of 182 points, represented by Gustaph and the song “Because of You”.
This year Belgium’s hopes rest with singer Essyla. Essyla is best known to audiences after she reached the final of the ninth season of The Voice Belgique.
She finished as the runner-up to Jérémie Makiese, who later represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
Essyla, whose full name is Alice Van Eesbeeck, kicked off her career with the release of her first two singles, Let You Go and Not My Kind of Dude. After both were well received by radio, she followed them up with the release of her debut EP, I’ll Be Okay.
On February 19 2026, it was announced that she will be representing Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with the song “Dancing on the Ice”.
At the time of writing, according to Betway it’s not looking too promising for a win for Belgium as they have one of the worst odds sitting at 500/1.
