Families, law enforcement leaders and officers gathered at the U.S. Capitol on May 15 for the 45th annual National Peace Officers Memorial Service, a solemn ceremony honouring fallen law enforcement officers and the loved ones they left behind. May 15 is recognised as Peace Officers Memorial Day, established after President John F. Kennedy’s 1962 proclamation designating the date and the surrounding week as a time to honor officers killed in the line of duty. Vice President JD Vance and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche attend the 45th Annual National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service at the U.S. Capitol.
