Croatian airline plane skids off runway in Split, hits billboard, 130 passengers on board

A Croatia Airlines Airbus A220-300, registration 9A-CAN, skidded off runway 23 and partially crashed into the grass during an aborted takeoff at Split Airport in Croatia on May 16, 2026.
The pilot of the plane was operating scheduled flight OU412 to Frankfurt, Germany, with 130 passengers and five crew members on board.
During the takeoff movement, the aircraft veered to the left for unknown reasons and struck a vertical sign and several lights at the edge of the runway, sustaining damage.
The crew followed standard procedures to reject takeoff and safely stop the plane, the Telegraph reports.
All passengers were safely evacuated with no injuries reported. The cause of the diversion remains under investigation. /Telegraph/
