Queen Camilla reportedly has a ‘ruthless streak’ (Picture: Getty Images)
A royal’s job is to be neutral, whether it’s staying impartial in politics or smiling through awkward diplomatic encounters (ahem, Trump). But that doesn’t mean they’re not allowed personal opinions behind closed doors.
One family member who has long kept her thoughts to herself is Queen Camilla.
On the surface, she’s someone who quietly performs her public-facing duties, from hosting the annual Buckingham Palace Garden Party to celebrating the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust.
However, Christopher Wilson, author of A Greater Love – Charles and Camilla, has revealed that there’s another side to the Queen. Specifically, that she has a ‘ruthless streak.’
Wilson’s claims come after it was reported that Camilla and Prince William were the driving forces behind Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s downfall.

He said they allegedly convinced the King to punish his younger brother in the wake of the Epstein scandal, which involved the removal of his titles and his eviction from the Royal Lodge.

Wilson explained: ‘She’s every bit as convincing as the old Queen Mother was when it comes to putting on a sweet smile and saying just the right thing to put people at ease.
‘But – again like the Queen Mum – there’s a ruthless streak to Camilla which she takes care to keep hidden from view.’
Daily Mail report that Wilson said Camilla sees her role as ‘supporting and protecting her man.’ The author added that her predecessor as Queen Consort, Elizabeth, ‘did just the same during the war years and after with her husband, King George VI.’
Wilson also said that ‘Camilla understands’ that monarchy is ‘about survival.’
He added the Queen has ‘read the history books and knows how, when the House of Windsor was brought to its knees in 1936 with the Abdication of King Edward VIII, she [the Queen mother] put fire in the belly of her reluctant husband, turning him into a successful wartime monarch who did a great double-act with Prime Minister Winston Churchill.’
‘King George needed her iron-clad courage, just as King Charles needs Camilla’s today,’ Wilson said, adding that the monarch’s ‘weakness’ is that he’s ‘too kind and forgiving.’

However, Wilson believes Camilla’s steeliness can ‘stiffen his backbone when needed.’
For example, it’s long been discussed whether Andrew should lose his place in the line of succession. While Wilson claimed it’s an ‘uncomfortable’ decision for Charles, Camilla is ‘urging him’ to follow it through.
The author also suggested that it’s not just Andrew who is in the Queen’s firing line. She reportedly has her sights set on Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, too.
Wilson said it’s ‘even likely that her influence will take [them] out of the royal pecking order as well.’
He finished: ‘The Queen has apparently concluded that all the Yorks, including Princesses Beatrice, Eugenie and their children, should be excluded from the line of succession.’
And, considering Camilla failed to congratulate Eugenie on her recently announced third pregnancy, the signs may already be there.
‘As far as she’s concerned, their names need never be mentioned again,’ Wilson said.
