Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday hailed Donald Trump as the “one man” bold enough to do things differently as president, like unilaterally starting a war in Iran with no strategy — and painting a pool blue.
“When you authorized ‘Operation Epic Fury,’ just like you talked about with the Reflecting Pool, we didn’t do the same old thing the way we’ve done it in the past,” Hegseth gushed in a cabinet meeting of Trump officials taking turns lavishing the president with praise.

Trump, who beamed as his defense secretary spoke, talked at length about the potentially illegal modifications he’s been making to the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. A nonprofit, the Cultural Landscape Foundation, sued him this month for painting its basin blue without first going through a review process required for making changes to national historic sites.
This new blue color “is more appropriate to a resort or theme park,” Charles Birnbaum, the group’s president and CEO, previously said in a statement.
On Wednesday, though, Trump offered a different description of the bright blue paint he’s coated over the Reflecting Pool’s basin, which has had a signature gray color since it first opened in 1924.
“It’s called American Flag Blue,” Trump raved.
