BERLIN, Vt. (WCAX) – Local leaders held a grand opening Tuesday for the new Eco Depot in Berlin, a permanent facility years in the making.
For years, Central Vermont residents could only dispose of hazardous materials on certain days at a pop-up site in Barre. Now, they can drop off dead batteries, electronics, fluorescent bulbs, paint, mercury, flammable liquids and more year-round.
“Having the year-round service three days a week and third Saturdays is huge for the community, especially in the event of a natural disaster. Responding to that, being open and available to manage those materials safely is massive,” said Theron Lay-Sleeper, the general manager of Central Vermont Solid Waste Management.
The Eco Depot is in Berlin, but any Vermont family can stop by to drop off materials Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Businesses can come by on Tuesday and Thursday.
