OCHA: More Than Six Million People Have Returned to Afghanistan Since 2023

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced that more than six million Afghan refugees have returned to the country since 2023.

The organization reported on Saturday, June 20, that many of the returnees have gone back to areas that were already facing serious challenges, including poverty and limited access to services.

OCHA said, “For a large number of families, returning home is only the beginning of a new struggle.”

Marking World Refugee Day, OCHA emphasized that sustained support in vulnerable areas across Afghanistan is needed to better manage the situation.

This comes as refugees from Afghanistan in various countries, including Pakistan and Iran, have consistently faced numerous challenges, including forced deportation.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has stated that Afghanistan continues to face one of the largest displacement crises in the world.
