Andrew Mountbatten Windsor might not be out of the woods just yet.
As Examiner previously reported, the former Duke of York, 66, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office earlier this year following claims that he shared confidential information with the late Jeffrey Epstein while working as a U.K. trade envoy, only to be released and never charged with a crime.
However, the investigation is still ongoing, per Thames Valley Police, and according to a new report from The Times, detectives are preparing to travel to the U.S. to speak with the family of the late Virginia Giuffre, who settled a sexual lawsuit with the disgraced royal in 2022.
“The police are taking this incredibly seriously,” a source tells Examiner. “They’re looking for every last bit of mud because they clearly want to throw the book at him and send him to prison for a very long time.”
Should that happen, “the fallout will be enormous,” says the source. “There’s a very real fear Andrew could start singing like a canary if he feels he’s got nothing left to lose and throw the whole family under the bus in any way he can.”

King Charles III, in particular, “is terrified that this will end up being all that his reign is remembered for,” the source reveals, “and if it drags on into the future, it could very well become a nightmare” for Prince William too.
On Monday, July 13, the anti-monarchy group Republic posted a photo to X of a pair of protesters posing with an image of Andrew, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, and Jeffrey Epstein and a bright yellow banner that read “What did you know?” that they’d snuck into Buckingham Palace’s Throne Room.
“As much as Charles wants to distance himself from this, the fact is he’s still giving Andrew shelter and showing him mercy, even as the net keeps tightening,” notes the source. “So whether he likes it or not, he’s still very much tied to him and if Andrew goes to prison, it’s hard to imagine there won’t be blowback for the king and the rest of the family as well.”
