Hisar: An 18-year-old migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh died after collapsing inside a sewer line while carrying out a cleaning operation at Jahaj Pul Chowk in Hisar early on Saturday. The victim, identified as Meharban, was rushed to a hospital after being pulled out unconscious by fellow workers, but doctors declared him dead. Police suspect suffocation due to toxic gases inside the sewer, though the exact cause of death will be established only after the postmortem examination.According to police, sewer maintenance work was underway at Jahaj Pul Chowk for the past four to five days. On Saturday morning, Meharban, a native of Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh, entered the sewer line for cleaning. When he failed to emerge after some time, co-workers pulled him out and shifted him to a hospital, where he was declared dead.Police reached the spot soon after receiving information and initiated an investigation. The body has been sent to the Civil Hospital for postmortem. Officials said further legal action will be taken based on the postmortem findings and statements of the victim’s family.
