SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday evening in a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of North Milan Elk Road and East Eloika Road, according to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash was reported just before 7 p.m. Tuesday after multiple 911 callers reported a motorcycle had left the roadway, the sheriff’s office said. Callers told dispatchers the rider was unresponsive, and bystanders began CPR before Spokane County Fire District 4 firefighters arrived and continued lifesaving efforts.
According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, Life Flight responded because of the rider’s severe injuries, but the adult man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s office officials said witnesses reported the motorcyclist had been driving recklessly, passing other vehicles and traveling at an estimated 90 mph before the crash.
According to the preliminary investigation, the motorcycle was traveling north on Milan Elk Road when the rider attempted to negotiate a right-hand curve at Eloika Road. The motorcycle crossed the centerline, traveled through the southbound lane, left the roadway and struck a traffic sign, the sheriff’s office said.
The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. According to investigators, excessive speed and possible impairment are suspected factors in the fatal crash.
The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the rider’s identity, along with the cause and manner of death, once next of kin have been notified.
The crash remains an active investigation.
