A crater near a Moldovan village has renewed fears that Russia’s war against Ukraine is reaching far beyond the battlefield.
The crash of an unidentified aerial object near the village of Talmaza once again highlighted the risks that Russia’s war against Ukraine poses to Moldova. Moldovan Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi stated that Russian aggression directly threatens the security of the country and its citizens.
According to the minister, Moldova’s airspace has been violated nearly 60 times since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Anatolie Nosatîi placed responsibility for these incidents on Russia.
Recently, Russian drones have repeatedly and illegally violated Moldova’s airspace, threatening the lives of our citizens. Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine endangers Moldova. As I have repeatedly said, as long as the war continues, as long as Russia destroys civilian infrastructure and puts human lives at risk, all of this affects neighboring countries as well. Nearly 60 violations of Moldova’s airspace are proof of this.

He also stressed that Russia has not stopped its aggressive foreign policy, violates Moldova’s neutrality, and poses a danger to people.
Object Explodes Near Talmaza
During Russia’s attack on Ukraine on August 17, an object identified as “Banderol” crossed the border from Odesa Oblast and fell near the village of Talmaza. Moldova’s Ministry of Defense stated that the unidentified object exploded on the outskirts of the settlement.
On August 18, Moldovan police clarified that what likely exploded at the site was a missile-type unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a turbojet propulsion system.
The explosion created a crater approximately two meters in diameter and about 50 centimeters deep. The blast wave spread roughly 20 meters. The incident was another example demonstrating the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on the security of neighboring Moldova.
