Benchmark indices extended their downward trajectory on Wednesday, driven by elevated crude oil prices, rising global bond yields, and persistent geopolitical anxieties that kept investors cautious. The Nifty slipped below the psychological 24,100 threshold, while broader markets faced sustained selling pressure across midcap and smallcap segments.
Domestic Indices & Market Breadth
The S&P BSE Sensex dropped 325.78 points, or 0.42%, to close at 76,909.68. Meanwhile, the Nifty 50 index lost 76.60 points, or 0.32%, settling at 24,078.30. Frontline heavyweights led the downward pull, with Reliance Industries (down 0.83%), ICICI Bank (down 0.71%), and HDFC Bank (down 0.41%) acting as the major drags on the Nifty. Market breadth remained firmly negative; out of the total shares traded on the BSE, 1,807 advanced, 2,483 declined, and 244 remained unchanged.
