As the issue of the ownership of state and defence property goes to the very core of sovereignty in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it has evaded a neat and lasting solution. For years, international interest has wavered, leaving the question to be answered at a later and hopefully more favourable date. 

Today, however, with Washington increasingly driven by business motives in energy, mining and other critical infrastructure, there is mounting concern that the US could seek to drive through a settlement that is ultimately detrimental to the country’s fundamental interests.
