Malta is heading into a seriously hot final week of August, with an orange heat warning now in place as temperatures are forecast to climb as high as 37°C and potentially feel closer to a sweltering 42°C.

The warning, classified as “Be Prepared (Orange)”, comes as the Malta International Airport Met Office forecasts maximum temperatures of 34°C today, Monday 24th August, and Tuesday 25th August.

And things are set to get significantly hotter from Wednesday.

Between Wednesday 26th and Sunday 30th August, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 36°C and 37°C, keeping Malta firmly in scorching summer territory.

According to the seven-day forecast, hot and sunny weather is expected every single day this week, with little respite from the heat.

Today and Tuesday are forecast to reach 34°C but feel closer to 39°C, before Wednesday climbs to 36°C with a “feels like” temperature of 41°C.

Thursday is currently expected to be the hottest day in terms of actual temperature, reaching 37°C and feeling like 42°C.

Friday and Saturday are both forecast to reach 36°C and feel like 41°C, while Sunday could once again feel as hot as 42°C despite a forecast high of 36°C.

And the nights aren’t looking particularly refreshing either, with minimum temperatures remaining between 26°C and 27°C throughout the week.

The UV index is also forecast to remain at a very high 9 every day.

So if you were hoping the final week of August would bring a little relief from Malta’s summer heat, it looks like you’ll have to wait a little longer.

Stay hydrated, keep out of the strongest sunshine where possible and keep that sunscreen close.
