Trinity Consultants is expanding its water-quality and construction compliance business through the acquisition of Sacramento-based Verux, a specialist in stormwater management and environmental compliance.
The transaction adds stormwater permitting, monitoring, construction management and training capabilities to Trinity’s environmental consulting practice. It also gives the Dallas-based firm a larger operating presence in California and the Western U.S., where infrastructure development is often accompanied by complex federal, state and local water-quality requirements.
Verux Brings Specialized Stormwater and Construction Expertise
Founded in 2010, Verux works with contractors, public agencies, municipalities and developers on stormwater compliance and water-quality management. Its services cover Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan development, permitting, field inspections, monitoring, sampling and analysis.
The firm also provides construction management services and Water Pollution Control Manager training, with experience supporting transportation, infrastructure and construction projects subject to California and Caltrans requirements.
That focus adds a more specialized layer to Trinity’s existing environmental consulting operations. Trinity already provides services across environmental, health and safety compliance, water and ecology, the built environment and life sciences.
For clients managing large construction or transportation projects, the combination could provide access to a wider range of technical disciplines without separating stormwater compliance from broader environmental work.
Trinity West Region Managing Director Vineet Masuraha said the companies have similar approaches to practical, science-based consulting and client service. Trinity expects the acquisition to expand the technical resources available to customers handling stormwater and construction compliance issues.
Verux leaders Bob Shults and Ben Rau will remain with the business and take positions within Trinity’s environmental consulting practice. Keeping the existing leadership team in place may help maintain continuity for clients while the two organizations integrate their operations.
California Footprint Positions Trinity for Growing Compliance Demand
Verux will continue to operate from its Sacramento headquarters and regional California offices, giving Trinity an established base in a market known for detailed water-quality and construction regulations.
That footprint matters as public infrastructure investment, commercial development and transportation projects continue to create demand for specialists who can manage runoff, erosion and water-quality requirements from planning through construction.
Stormwater compliance can involve several layers of oversight, including federal rules, state permitting systems and local project requirements. California projects may also need to meet agency-specific standards, adding another level of coordination for project owners and contractors.
For Trinity, acquiring an established specialist provides a faster route into that work than building a comparable team from scratch. Verux, meanwhile, gains access to Trinity’s wider geographic network and environmental consulting capabilities.
Shults has described the transaction as a way to extend Verux’s technical resources and market reach while retaining the operating approach developed by the firm. The practical test will be whether that specialist model remains intact as Verux becomes part of a much larger organization.
The deal also reflects a broader pattern in environmental consulting, where larger firms are acquiring niche businesses to add technical depth in areas affected by tighter regulation and infrastructure spending.
The Verux acquisition is less about entering an entirely new market for Trinity than adding depth in a compliance category closely tied to construction and infrastructure activity. Its value will ultimately depend on whether the combined business can translate greater scale into smoother project delivery without losing the responsiveness clients often expect from a specialist consultancy.
