INDIANAPOLIS (WXIX) – President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration for multiple Indiana counties recovering from recent historic storms and flooding, Gov. Mike Braun announced early Wednesday.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approval releases millions in federal funding to support local recovery efforts.
“Thank you, President Trump,” the governor said. “This critical support will help Hoosiers recovering from historic storms and flooding. We’re grateful for this partnership as we work to rebuild, recover, and help communities get back on their feet.”

A total of 21 Indiana counties will receive federal funding in this initial expedited wave of approvals, according to the governor’s office.
Eleven of those counties are also approved for repairs of public facilities and infrastructure, meaning they have access to both funding streams for a more comprehensive recovery.
Assistance is divided into two categories:
Individual Assistance (Assistance to individuals and households): Approved for Carroll, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Porter, Pulaski, Randolph, Rush, Tipton, Union, and Wayne counties.Public Assistance (Emergency work and facility repairs): Approved for Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Porter, Tipton, and Wayne counties.

Other counties not initially listed remain under review and may become eligible as further damage data is collected, according to the governor’s office.
Indiana Department of Homeland Security and FEMA are expected to release more details Wednesday.
