Judiciary reopens as security threat de-escalates

THE Judiciary has informed its staff that they can report back to work today, August 27, following the de-escalation of the security threat. On Monday, courts countrywide were closed, with armed police officers sealing off the premises. The Zambia Police said law enforcement and security agencies were conducting security risk assessments at selected key government premises countrywide. The closure of judicial institutions came at a critical time of the seven-day deadline for filing a petition against the outcome of the recent presidential election.
