A high-profile sports official is now at the center of a widening case involving alleged gifts, missing funds, and a major cryptocurrency platform.

This was reported by Poland’s Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek on the social network X.

Poland has detained the sitting president of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl), Radosław Piesiewicz. The procedural actions are being carried out as part of an investigation related to the Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange.

Poland’s Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, Waldemar Żurek, said that the case is being handled by the Silesian branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office.

Today, Radosław P. was detained as part of the Zondacrypto investigation. The prosecutor’s office will provide further information once the procedural actions involving him, which are being conducted at the Silesian branch of the National Prosecutor’s Office, have been completed.

Investigation into possible ties with Zondacrypto

Investigators are examining possible improper connections between Radosław Piesiewicz and Zondacrypto chief Przemysław Kral.

A joint investigation by Wirtualna Polska and TVN24 alleged that Kral had given the head of PKOl a Patek Philippe watch worth approximately €40,000, along with other gifts. Piesiewicz denied claims that the watch had been a gift, stressing that he had bought it with his own money.

Investigation into the cryptocurrency exchange’s operations

Separately, prosecutors are investigating Zondacrypto’s operations. In April, prosecutors in Katowice opened proceedings on suspicion of large-scale fraud and money laundering. The case was prompted by thousands of reports of alleged crimes.

The proceedings were later merged with the case concerning the disappearance of BitBay founder Sylwester Suszek. Following a rebranding, BitBay operated under the name Zondacrypto.

According to Waldemar Żurek, prosecutors are taking steps to secure funds that could eventually be used to compensate the cryptocurrency exchange’s customers. The amount exceeds 100 million zlotys, or around €24 million.

Zondacrypto had been PKOl’s general sponsor since October 2025. However, on April 30, the company’s advertising sign was removed from the Polish Olympic Committee building in Warsaw.
