Stora Enso will modify the recovery boiler at its Varkaus mill in Finland with a new secondary superheater, according to the technology supplier Valmet.
The delivery includes replacement of the existing secondary superheater with Valmet’s tubular superheater and modification of the current superheater arrangement. The mill has an annual production capacity of 420,000 tonnes of containerboard and 335,000 tonnes of pulp.
Valmet will also provide process monitoring services including remote support and operator training under a separate three-year cooperation agreement. While the superheater installation is scheduled for September 2027, maintenance services for the recovery boiler’s annual shutdown will be provided in 2026.
The value of the order and the cooperation agreement are not disclosed.
