Maltese basketball prospect Giacomo Camilleri is taking his talents to Spain after securing a move to BCBadajoz, where he will compete with the club’s U18 squad at the highest junior level in the country.
The 16-year-old joins the Extremadura-based side from Starlites Basketball Club, marking a major step forward in the young guard’s rapidly developing career.
Standing at 1.83 metres, Camilleri can operate as both a point guard and shooting guard, with his game management, control of the tempo and ability to create opportunities for teammates among his standout qualities.
And he already has plenty of international experience under his belt.
Camilleri impressed for Malta during this summer’s FIBA U16 EuroBasket Division C campaign, averaging 4.7 points, six rebounds and 4.5 assists as the national side battled its way to a silver medal.
He has also picked up valuable minutes representing Malta at U18 level.
Back home, Camilleri built an impressive winning record with Starlites, collecting several youth honours, including an unbeaten U16 league campaign and the Memorial Cup.
His trophy cabinet also includes senior honours with the club, including the Knock Out, League, Shield and John Tabone Shield.
BCBadajoz highlighted the youngster’s pedigree and development while announcing his arrival as part of the Spanish club’s international talent-building project.
And Camilleri appears more than ready to get started.
“A new chapter with new goals and endless motivation,” he said as he expressed his excitement and gratitude over the move.
At just 16 years old, Camilleri will now have the opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s strongest basketball environments, while flying the flag for Maltese basketball in Spain.
