A new round of talks puts battlefield technology, faster deliveries, and long-term security commitments at the center of Ukraine’s discussions with Latvia.
Ukraine and Latvia discussed the priority needs of the Defense Forces, the pace of military aid deliveries, and further defense cooperation. The meeting was attended by Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatyi, and Latvian Defense Minister Raivis Melnis.
This is reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian delegation focused on the equipment needed by the military to counter Russian aggression. This includes ground robotic systems, fiber-optic-controlled drones, medium-range strike systems, and air defense capabilities.
Latvia Will Continue Its Security Support for Ukraine
Yevhenii Khmara stressed that the Defense Forces critically need the agreed assistance to arrive as quickly as possible. The Latvian side confirmed its readiness to continue supporting Ukraine in the security sector, allocating at least 0.25% of the country’s gross domestic product to this purpose annually.
Ukraine also expects Latvia to actively assist in engaging partners and working through international formats, which could help secure additional resources for the Ukrainian military.
Military Rehabilitation, Training, and Cybersecurity
During the talks, the parties separately considered the rehabilitation of Ukrainian defenders, military training, and the strengthening of cyber capabilities.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense emphasized that the Ukrainian side is prepared to share practical experience with Latvia in countering modern military threats. In particular, this concerns conducting multidomain operations, developing territorial defense, and constructing modern fortifications.
Following the meeting, Ukraine and Latvia reaffirmed their intention to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the defense sector and strengthen support for Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
