A serious collision between a bus and a car at Budapest’s busy Astoria intersection has left nine people injured, including a woman who suffered life-threatening injuries. Two children were among those taken to hospital.
Serious crash in central Budapest
Nine people were injured when a bus collided with a car at Astoria in central Budapest on Saturday, the Hungarian National Ambulance Service (OMSZ) told MTI.
Several ambulance units were dispatched to the scene following the crash. A middle-aged woman was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries, while eight other people suffered less serious injuries. Two children were among those hospitalised.
Crash happened during a lane change
The accident happened at around 1:40 PM as the vehicles were travelling from Ferenciek Square towards Blaha Lujza Square, the National Police Headquarters told Index.
Initial information indicates that the car collided with a bus travelling in the same direction in the designated bus lane while the driver of the car was changing lanes.
The exact circumstances and cause of the collision are being investigated by the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK). Despite the severity of the accident, the vehicles did not cause a traffic obstruction, police said.
The investigation will determine how the collision occurred and whether any further circumstances contributed to the crash.
