I mainly wanted to post this because I was shocked by this statistic:

That is fucking insane. When we’re actually redesigning an intersection and we **still** don’t want to actually make it safe because it would hinder cars too much.
And then people have the balls to claim that drivers are being bullied. We bend over backward to placate drivers.
Traffic expert also has other advice for improving safety:
>Maar dé beste remedie om dodehoekongevallen tegen te gaan, is volgens Miermans het beperken van de snelheid in de bebouwde kom tot 30 km/uur. ‘Wanneer auto’s of vrachtwagens trager rijden, zijn de ongevallen ook minder ernstig.’

When i take a right turn i always look over the shoulder.
Always look through the backside window when taking a turn
The blind corners of cars are only the sections behind the window frames. If you don’t look over your shoulder during your exam, you won’t even get your licence today.
I often have this issue when approaching a car from the right front. If your both moving you can be covered by that beam for just long enough so the drivers doesn’t see me on my bike until it’s too late. Thus, I’m always looking for eye contact.
I know. I hit the same tree twice while parking in reverse. Both times the tree was in a dead corner.
Which is why most cars nowadays are equipped with blind-spot-warnings.
I always look over my shoulder for both directions and still I sometimes miss a full-ass car that is hidden behind one the car’s roof pillars… pedestrians, bicyclists and motorbike riders are even easier to miss… this is something I’d like to have a driver assist functionality for in my car.
The Audi A1 might be a small car, but those A-pillars in the back are massive. Especially tricky for bicycles on some *ringwegen*.
