Bombings in Iran: ‘Islamic State’ claims responsibility | DW News

The so-called Islamic state has claimed responsibility for an attack on a ceremony in Iran that killed more than 80 people the terror group made the announcement on the messaging service telegram it said two of its members were responsible for twin explosions at commemorations of top Commander Kasam

Sumani who was assassinated by a us drone in 2020 these were the deadliest attacks in the Islamic Republic’s history let’s bring in Ali fanad he’s a political scientist with the think tank Center for Middle East and Global Order here in Berlin now Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the attack

What’s your assessment of how credible that claim is well that’s a very good question I mean it could well be that the Islamic State Das has been behind this terror attack given also the kind of confessional conflict uh which pits the Islamic State uh and extremist Sunni organization against the Islamic

Republic which is a Shia entity so in this particular context it would of course uh make perfect sense uh but then again another possibility is that the Islamic uh state is claiming that it has been behind this terror attack to portray its strength um but be it as it

May um there is given the past experiences also uh you know had uh other Terror attacks that were attributed to the Islamic State um the truth of the matter is that uh there is very um little likelihood that we will have some certitude about the perpetrators of this attack because um

Um there will be no due process I believe uh in identifying the culprits uh talking about identifying the culprits Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah alih has said the attackers will face a quote harsh response uh though he didn’t point to any uh possible suspect what kind of uh response uh could he

Mean well um the Islamic Republic has uh pledged the same thing four years ago after the US strong killing of general solmani that uh the US will face face um I quote hard Revenge uh but we didn’t see it so it’s Absolut Ely unclear what the Islam Republic will do uh because

Also these attacks are happening in the context of uh you know um difficulties for the regime inside and outside of its borders so it could well instrumentalize these attacks to further securitize the domestic arena with double election on the horizon on March 1st for the Parliament and the Assembly of experts

Uh who is going to to select the next supreme leader for which the regime knows that they’re going to be uh probably a very low voter turnout so um this may be uh you know the connection domestically and externally the Islam Republic has uh been dealt some important uh blows very recently with

The killing of not only aruri in Beirut but also a week earlier of a top irgc commander in Syria probably by the at the hands of Israel so in any case whoever might be the perpetrator of this attack I’m quite sure and if you look at the Iranian State narrative that the

Islamic Republic is surely going to instrumentalize it for its own power purposes now there has been some speculation that Israel may have been behind the attack in karaman the uh Iranian backed Hezbollah group in Lebanon has been engaged in low-level fighting with Israel since October 7th

How great do you think is is the risk that it will escalate well according to the Iranian State narrative um uh the Islamic State uh has been uh actually invented by Israel in the United States so um all of this sits very well with the kind of Iranian narrative but it is very

Unlikely that Israel has been the perpetrator but because um those the pattern of Israeli attacks in Iran have been a wholly different one uh Israel has been uh targeting uh regime uh military and nuclear infrastructures and has been showing away from uh not uh you know uh not uh very clearly targeting

Those infrastructures and such a terrorist attack that has been um you know seen uh witness victims you know casualties among civilians uh will only be counterproductive for Israel so I think uh you know Israel is very unlikely to be to have been behind this particular attack here thank you very much Ali

That thank you

The so-called Islamic State claimed responsibility for two devastating explosions that killed 84 people at a commemoration in Iran marking Qasem Soleimani’s assassination by the United States.

The Islamist militant extremist group posted a statement on its affiliate Telegram channels taking responsibility for the attack saying two of its members “activated their explosives vests.”

Two bombs exploded in the Iranian city of Kerman on Wednesday and killed scores gathered to commemorate the death of Soleimani, a prominent Iranian general leader killed by a US drone strike in neighboring Iraq in 2020.

  1. As time unfolds, history will unveil the narrative behind the scenes of those responsible for these crimes, akin to the revelation of Ashraf Marwan's story.

While it may take decades for the full truth to emerge, the collective consciousness of the people in West Asia has evolved far beyond the era of Ashraf Marwan.

  2. Israel may have use isis to do the attack in Iran , ( if i havent misunderstood from the talk " that Israel ceeated Isis in the past ) .

  3. Look at that, ELECTION is near and this happen so suddenly, now Iran have the reason to use their forces “To make the election peacefully “…

  4. What a low quality of the expert talk !!! He is blaming the victims and defending Israel.
From where they pulled up ISIS to claim the responsibility. WoW. What a distraction tactic !!

  5. Ummm are we forgetting how isis became a group from the US ??? Arming these moderate rebels to take down Gaddafi and then armed them to take out Assad?? And everytime Russia and hezbollah made gains in Syria in defeating these jihadists the US "MISTAKENLY" dropped brand new weapons in the laps of ISIS….6 separate " MISTAKES ". And lets not forget all the injured isis fighters that were healed in Israel the Golan to make sure they were able to enter back into Syria against Assad once they were healed

  6. Still the Iran leader saud that Isis was bact up by the US hahaha. Thats what you get when you cover your women you dont know if it was a girl or a man hiding inside.

  7. Bravi continuate così… L’Isis che bombarda al Qaeda, e gli ex bolla è proprio il massimo della vita.cane mangia cane

  8. THERES no ISIS in middle east but those who blame isis are the ones who attacked iran useing isis name as usa, isreal, uk and natoes are running the attacks under name of isis often ? ISIS was formed by usa, isreal uk and natoes countries to have war in iraq and syria using isis names to kill innocents lives in iraq and syria who were the fighters soliders from usa, isreal,uk,french, germany and natoe countries also some oic countries paid to fight in iraq and syria while iran was fighting alone against them in iraq and syria and iran won the 20years war in both the countries ?

  9. THE whole world knew whos were begind isis created war in iraq and syria for their own benefits as usa still today stealing oil and gas from iraq and syria illegally ? WHAT a shame?

  10. Everyone knows ISIS was created and supported by Us and it's allies. The reason is simple, that is to make middle East unstable and can be used to make excuse so that they can make military bases in middle East in the name of fighting terrorist. As of now US has military bases in Iraq, and Syria. The reason for their military bases they give is that they are ensuring that revival of ISIS doesn't happen but in truth they are ensuring that ISIS doesn't die and they can continue to remain in Middle East.

  11. Israeli Mossad and US Central Intelligence Agency, as well as the IDF and US Armed Forces are NOT at all whatsoever responsible for killing Iranian Civilians, although MGen Qassem Solemani, IRGC, either way, will NOT be missed.
