Namibia launched the Kick-Off Workshop for the implementation of the UNESCO Thematic Indicators for Culture in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (UNESCO Culture|2030 Indicators) under the leadership of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts & Culture and the City of Windhoek. The implementation is made possible under the framework of the programme titled “Advancing evidence-based policies and actions and supporting policy making to enhance the contribution of creative sectors and industries to sustainable development,” generously funded by the European Union (EU).

Held from 01–02 July 2025 at the Franco-Namibia Cultural Centre (FNCC), the workshop brought together participants from government ministries, public institutions, the City of Windhoek, academia, civil society, and individual cultural experts. Over two days, they engaged in data mapping exercises, reviewed existing cultural policies, and discussed strategies to operationalize the Culture|2030 Indicators at national and city levels.

The Culture|2030 Indicators are designed to help Member States systematically collect and analyze data to monitor culture’s contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. They measure culture’s impact across four thematic areas: Environment & Resilience, Prosperity & Livelihoods, Knowledge & Skills, and Inclusion & Participation, making culture’s role in sustainable development both visible and measurable.
