Rabat – Nigeria’s national team has settled the issue of player bonuses just days before their Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarterfinal match with Algeria.

The matter had raised concerns about a possible strike, but it is now confirmed that the payments have been processed.

Journalist Tobi Samuel reported that he spoke with an official from the Nigerian Football Federation, who assured him the situation was resolved.

According to the report, the funds were transferred from the Central Bank of Nigeria to each player’s personal account, and both players and staff will receive their full bonuses once the procedures are completed. The team trained normally in Fez today, showing that preparations for the match are back on track.

This development comes after weeks of tension surrounding Nigeria’s AFCON camp. Bonus disputes have been a recurring issue in Nigerian football, with players in past tournaments sometimes threatening to boycott training or matches until payments were made.

The situation before the Algeria game raised fears of another disruption, especially given the importance of the quarterfinal stage. Resolving the matter quickly was seen as important to keeping focus on the pitch.

Nigeria have been in strong form at AFCON 2025, winning all their matches so far and showing balance between attack and defense.

Their squad includes experienced stars and young talents who have impressed in the group stage and round of 16. Algeria, their next opponent, has also arrived in Marrakech with momentum after a dramatic extra‑time win over DR Congo.

The quarterfinal will be played at the Grand Stade de Marrakech on Saturday at 17:00 (GMT+1). With the bonus issue resolved, Nigeria can now fully concentrate on the challenge ahead.
