The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has rejected allegations that it underpaid election officials who worked during the November 2025 regional council and local authority elections.
ECN chief executive Peter Shaama says the commission had received complaints from several election officials about their payments.
“The commission asserts that all payments were processed responsibly, based on verified work completed as recorded in the individual attendance registers,” Shaama said in a statement on Thursday.
More than 18 000 election officials were contracted for the elections, with contracts running from 23 November to 29 November 2025.
However, Shaama clarified that officials were not automatically entitled to payment for the full contract period, but only for the days on which they actually worked.
He added that the ECN used individual attendance registers to verify work completed and all payments were made in December.
“If any individuals have verifiable evidence regarding the issue, they should submit it to the human resources division through the ECN regional offices for further assistance,” Shaama said.
“The commission reiterates its commitment to accountability and transparency.”
