Kenya, January 09, 2026 – The Mt Kenya region is fully prepared for the ruling party’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections scheduled for Saturday (tomorrow), Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi has said, expressing confidence in high voter turnout and a smooth exercise.
Speaking ahead of the polls, Wamumbi said the party expects large numbers of members to participate in the elections, which will be conducted at the polling station level across the region. “We are ready for the grassroots elections and we are expecting many people to turn up and take part in the process,” he said.
According to the MP, the elections will begin at the polling station level, where members will elect 20 leaders per station in line with party guidelines. The positions are designed to ensure inclusive representation of various groups, including farmers, youth, professionals and other special categories.
“The party requires us to elect 20 people to represent different categories as stipulated. This is meant to ensure all segments of society are represented within UDA structures,” Wamumbi explained.
He noted that the elected polling station officials will then convene at the ward level to elect ward representatives. Those elected at the ward level will proceed to the constituency level, where they will in turn elect constituency leaders.
